Hey there, I hope someone here can help me,
I run XP, and I can play Counter Strike for about ten minutes then I crash and get the following application error:
The instruction at "0x0c175969" referenced memory at "0x0c405800", the memory could not be read.
I've had this error with all my games on on a previous machine which I ended up reinstalling windows, but this time it only effects CS, not any other application, though I run all my games from another partition. How can I stop this?
Someone suggested changing my virtual memory settings under My Computer so I did. No help. I've also found patches for the windows 2000 version of this problem, but nothing for XP.

This is a reply I found in a mag that has cured the problem for me:
Go to the icon that you use to start the game and RIGHT click and choose properties
Go to the Shortcut Tab at the top
In the target add:
“-steam +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1”
without the quotes to replace "steam"
Also, remove your windows temp files and have a clean installation. It worked for me!
